Hey, its me again. lol. Ok, so I if you havnt read my other posts, I had my searay, twin 350 mpi, sn on one of them is ow634563, out and forgot to open the thru hulls for the Closed cooling system. While still in idle heading out on the bay, I got the BEEEEEEEEEEEp. I am assuming it was the overtemp. I was like oh crap, and opened the valves. the engines cooled back down. checked them and everything seemed ok. I gave full throttle, but the engines would only go to 3000 rmps and stop, not getting on plane. The last time we took it out it worked just fine, up on plane easy and 35knots. So, I took it back in to the dock. Let it cool down. I shut it down. I went out today, checked the motors, all the rubber on exhaust looks good, no leaks. Removed belts and spun the sea water pumps, I can turn them by hand one way but not the other way so I think the rubber on the impellers might have survived. I checked oil no water, all is fine with that. So, fired them up in the slip and they came to temp, about 159-161 f. I can set my hand on exhaust risers, they might be 90f. It is warm on the chesapeake. Took it out for a spin, idled fine temp stable, oil pres stable. throttled up and they went to 3000 rpm and wont go above. No alarm, but i didnt leave it at 3000 for very long. I cycled the outdrives up and down 5 or six times to make sure they were both all the way down. Still wouldnt get above 3000rpm. I read that theyu may have went into guardian mode. Reset is pretty straight forward, return to idle. I did that and shut down motors. Any ideas? I dont have a computer or anything to connect to for codes. I might have to have a merc mech take a look, but I thought id check here first. I was thinking, maybe i hit something iwth the prop and messed it up, but I think that would cause an overspeed, not a rpm limit. And if there was a bad temp sensor or oil pres sensor, than I wouldnt be getting normal temps and pressures.
Thanks for the help

AFter talking to a couple merc mechanics, explaining the situation, it has been sitting in a slip for about 5 weeks due to the wife having an operation and not being able to go swimming in the chesapeake bay, they are pretty certain that it is growth and barnacles on the bottom. short haul it and clean the bottom. Ill advise it that is what it was. I forgot, always try the easiest thing first. LOL.

If you plan on doing your own maintenance and diagnostics, invest in the software. It will pay for itself in no time, especially as you have twin engines in a penned boat (can't put it on a trailer and take it to the mechanics).

It's easy to use and you can save files and post them here, and those of us who also have the software can analyse the files for you, if need be..

You ran the motors for about 10 minutes with no water and all you did was rotate it by hand to verify the impellers are ok. Now there is a problem and ya need help. ok pull the sea pumps and let us know what you find

Normally I would pull them, but when shutting the thru hulls, water still comes out of the sea strainers, a lot of water, so, something else isnt working right now. A check valve is stuck or something. Since water was still in there, I think that the impellers didnt get as dry as I thought. When running, temps were fine on motors and on exhaust risers. I will keep spares on the boat, but Im gonna wait till fall when I pull the boat and fix them out of the water. They are a paint to remove and I will probably remove some other things to make it easier. short hauling it on monday.
