I have an 1987 Bayliner 2150 with a 5.0 liter OMC COBRA. When I put it in neutral it stalls but runs fine in forward and reverse, I can't even throttle it in nuetral, any ideas?

 :(

Re: Engine Stalling

How do you get it started? Starter does not work if you are in gear (shouldn't).

Can you start it in gear? Microswitches bad/misaligned

Does it die completely, with no sputtering or hope of running? Maybe ESA module bad.

Does it sputter, falter, then die? Maybe tune up is in order.

Can you give some more details?

It starts and idles fine in nuetral when cold, once warmed up it will not idle in neutral, you have to hurry and put it in foward or reverse, and if it stalls when warmed up it cranks awhile before it will start then you have to hurry up and put it in foward or reverse once engaged it runs fine, hard to dock or delaunch with this problem.

I agree, it sounds a lot like carb problems. Choke not shutting off?

As long as you are looking at that, have you checked points, rotor, dist cap, plugs, wires, condenser?

General tune up could help, not too expensive, and just a general good idea every so often.
