Engine Serial Number Which Year

I have a mercruiser 120 drive unit 0b934509 (engine number from plate in front of starter 8918374) can't find which year it is on any site search

The drive is for an 88 Alpha I The engine is an 85 for sure, but that first 8 in the serial number is probably a 6. Merc seems to have gone from the 685XXXX numbers straight to the 0AXXXXXX series without any additional new 7 or 8 numbers at the beginning of the serial number.

685XXXX started the 85 120's and 0AXXXXXX started the 86 model.

All kind of ID information up in the Sticky at the top of this forum.

man thanks alot I've searched high and low for this, now one other thing and I will leave you alone (the sticky at the top you are referring to not sure is this the quicklinks or advanced search)

685XXXX started the 85 120's and 0AXXXXXX started the 86 model.

All kind of ID information up in the Sticky at the top of this forum.

That's because Merc used the 7 and 8 numbers for the outboards in that era. (7s for Canadian made and 8s for Australian made)
