We have purchased a pontoon with a Johnson 30 HP. When I put in in reverse the engine rises. I have looked at the brackets but cannot figure out how to lock it in place. Any help is appreciated.

My 25 HP Merc does the same thing if I goose it. Somebody told me that is the way it is supposed to work-something about it being designed to kick up when you hit something.

true, it is good to leave the mount unlocked in case you hit a big ol' log, but when used in reverse it will come up and is not ok. there must be a locking mechanism on the bracket- just look for it when u find it... it will be a "doh!" moment for sure.

Yes part #24 is in and I have tried to figure out how to use it to secure the lower unit but have not had any luck.

Look carefully at the front, very top of the clamp bracket. There should be a lever that slides in a slot to engage or disengage the motor lock. There also should be a sticker by the lever that says lock, and unlock, but it may be wore off.
