Trying to find info on Mercruiser engine, serial #A589879. The Mercury site claims it is an invalid #(not 8 digits). This is the # off the mercruiser tag rivetted to the block above the starter. I'm looking for compression ratio, valve size, 2 or 4 bolt main, year of manufacture, etc. Any info appreciated.

Are you able to test run the Baja 350 on the hose somewhere, just to hear it, warm it up?

Then re-test compression, if #3 had a flake of rust on the valve lip/seat perhaps it would come off during your test run a short time, then all this arguement of what to do would be solved.

If compression stays low then 'Off with its Head'!!! Go on to Plan B
