engine overheats

I have a 1975 Johnson 135 hp. When I start the engine (in water) I get no water circulation up at the engine area. The water does flow out the small pee holes down by the prop. Any suggestions?<br />Thanx

If you know it's overheating (cylinder head gets too hot to touch), either the water pump needs service, there's a blockage or the vernitherm element(s) need to be replaced. If you have a shop manual, it makes the whole deal much easier.

Replace the T-stats while you are at it.
