Engine mounts (newbie)

I am having my transom stringers and motor mounts replaced on my boat. The shop I brought it to is a fiberglass shop and they do not do motor or our drive repair they ship it out to another shop so I saved myself a bunch of money and completely removed everything from the engine compartment and the complete out drive the only thing I left attached to the boat was the engine mounts.

When I ( I should say we cuz i had help from a friend) pulled my motor I left the motor mounts attached to the stringer so the shop would know where to put them after they rebuilt the boat.

I was reading my shop Manual and it says I should have removed the lag bolts and left the motor mounts attached to the motor... and I just lifted the motor off the mounts and left the mounts attached to the stringers...

What problems will I have when I go and try to put my motor back in?

Should I attach the motor mount to the motor and then when I put the motor back in then lag bolt the mount to the stringer?

Or lag bolt the motor mounts to the stringers and try to line them up that way?

I think it will be easier to remove the mounts and attach them to the motor and then drop the motor in and lag bolt them to the new stringers. I hope I am not too confused.

Re: Engine mounts (newbie)

I wouldn’t sweat it; the engine needs to be aligned to the new stringers anyway. When your boat back put the adjusting nuts on the engine mounts in half way position – to grant yourself some clearance in the up and down direction - then install the engine mounts on the engine and drop it in. insert the bolts in the rear engine mounts (on the transom plate) Once the engine alignment feels ok, mark the location for the lag bolts and install them if you have clearance; If not, left the engine again, undo the engine mounts and install them on your marks and drop the engine again.
