I have this 40 hp mariner. Model 40el ser. 6e9 L 424195 2 cyl. 2 carb. Not auto blend. Been sitting for a while and the fuel in the carb bowl looks like jello I'm trying to find a carb rebuild kit and head gaskets. I'm not seeing my ser. number anywhere. I'm not sure of the year, I'm thinking it is a 1982. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your serial number suggests the engine model number to be 7040716 which makes it out to be a 1986 year model..., https://www.crowleymarine.com/mariner/oem-parts/outboard/1986/-7040716?q=7040716

Though your serial number "range" suggests it has/had? auto blend,

I am guessing 1987.

Similar to a Yamaha CV40 or C40 model.

Take a look at the carburetors and the CDI assembly. See what markings you find on them. I am guessing 6E9 XX for the carburetors and 689 for the CDI assembly.

Take a look at the Yamaha parts catalog for their CV40ELD model and see if it does not look like your motor. www.yamahaoutboards.com

Thank you for answering me. I'm sorry it took so long to get back with you. Life just keeps getting in the way. It does have 6e9 on the carbs and 689 on the cdi. There is no evidence of auto blend ever being installed.

The Yamaha C and CV models did not come with oil injection.

Spot on info given above. It’s a Yamaha engine by the sounds of that serial number. Likely early 80’s. Pre mix oil
