Engine horn keeps going off.

The engine horn goes off when the port engine started. Usually the engine horn soulds when an engine stalls and turns off. Once restarted the horn would go off., Now it stays on eventhough the engine is running fine. Oil levels read fine. I did have a problem last week when the electric tripped and the water level rose above the batteries. I sumped out the water, charged the batteries, fixed the electrical problem at the pannel box and things seemed fine. Now I can't stop the horn.,
Any ideas?

hey stan welcome to iboats! what you have is a warning/alarm system in your boat. 3 things will trigger that alarm. high engine temp, low oil pressure or low gear lube fluid if your running outdrives and have the gear lube monitoring bottles attached to your engines. the buzzer will also go off if the key is in on position for more than ten seconds or so without starting. that's how you test the warning/alarm system. what engines are you running? what year?

Thank you very much for your reply. I have a sea ray 310 with 2 mercury 350 engines. When I turn on the port engine it almost smells like rubber burning. I hope I don't have water in the oil. If I do should I have a mechanic come over. the horn blows almost immedeately so the temperature is not high, and the oil presure reads full.

There is a slight communications error here.
" I hope I don't have water in the oil. If I do should I have a mechanic come over. "
you should check the oil level, not your mechanic.
"the horn blows almost immedeately so the temperature is not high"
oil pressure, drive oil, and engine temp are all in the loop
"and the oil presure reads full. "
oil pressure is in pounds.

i just went through the same thing. do you have fuel injection? there is a lot of things that my boat was wired to. low voltage, low alternator output, water circulation, all oil pressures. i also found that some codes a called sticky faults and will remain even if the problem has been corrected. i found a mechanic that let me borrow a scanner and fixed my problem in no time. also give a bunch of info about you motor.
was your alternator under water? could be putting out low voltage.
good luck

somthing missing,, arent there 2 large bilge pumps in the boat with 2 separate float switches wired to 2 different batteries. constant shore power charging will kill batteries and your pumps. good engine batteries should never need a charger because the engine charging system should keep them charged.
