Engine Hatch opening with failed actuator

I just installed a new actuator in my 258v. Works great. Obviously the old one failed and the previous owner never replaced it. I found one that met the specs i needed and installed.

what does a guy do if this thing fails closed in the future? I really dont know how you would get the engine hatch open?

i was thinking of putting an emergency pull cord on that upper pin that i could access from somewhere maybe the bottom of a cupholder or something along those lines.

With your setup, may be the only option. They normally go out slowly so can see it coming. Other failure is from a break in wiring/fuse going to. Some have back up emergency power for this reason

My Formula used a drive but also came with a large hinge type thing so it could be manually opened with hatch down

agreed, tie a small cable lanyard (stainless cable, not chord) to the end of your quick pin that you can access under the hatch when the hatch is down. that way when the actuator fails, you just pull the cable, pulling the pin out and then can open the hatch

I have added a similar cable to my convertible top solenoid as if that fails, it involves cutting the trunk off the car and replacing the trunk.

the alternate method is usually involving a saw

Some are set-up that there is play in the lifting strut, so you can reach in and pull the pin. Others are set up with a small access hatch so you can pull the pin. Others . . SOL.

Like has been said, route a pull lanyard to somewhere that you can reach regardless of available power.
