My boat is on a swinging mooring in sea water and I have no way of flushing the Engine, Engine is a 2007Volvo Penta 5.7 Gxi , could I use the onboard shower down hose if I made an adaptor to connect to the Engine flushing connector,
any advice appreciated

I wouldn't do it because the wash down pump can not supply enough water. You would most likely wind up damaging the impeller

I’ve had a boat on salt water mooring for close to 20 years and it’s never been flushed during the season. Flushing would help but it’s just not practical. I have replaced the exhaust every 5-7 seasons and I’m not sure that flushing would change that much. The other thing with raw water cooled engines in salt is the cyl heads start to suffer from corrosion after about 15 years. I still am running my original 1988 short block it got reman cyl heads 7 years ago. It’s now on its 4th exhaust system….

Fresh or salt water when heated above about 145 F Will always cause some minerals to come out of suspension & start sticking to the hot exhaust parts. Will always happen. Luck determines how much and how quickly. If you have industrial polluted water ? Pure luck.
