Hello. Can someone give me an opinion on why my motor dies after about 5 minutes of running. I notice that when it dies I try to prime the bulb and it won’t pull gas from the tank. After I get home and has sat I try and it primes. It’s like once I start it and get moving it isn’t pulling gas from the tank and stops once the primed gas is out of the engine. I don’t know I’m new to this. I changed the hoses and bulb but that didn’t help. Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Probably a bad o-ring in the primer hose.

Does the fuel tank have a manual vent and did you open it before running the engine?

Test run it with the fill cap removed. Better ?

Yes it has the Manuel vent opened.

Depending on your gas tank, is the vent open/and or venting?

Yes it has the Manuel vent opened.

One way to check if the vent is actually working... open the vent and put weight on the tank** (just lean on the top with body weight). You should hear air hissing out, and then when you remove your weight the air should hiss back in and the tank revert to it's original shape. If it doesn't do that, the vent is not working, even though you have it opened. I have a 6 gal Merc tank that has the vent in the cap, and it does not work. I have to open the cap 1 "click" so air can leak past the threads so the tank doesn't develop a vacuum while running.

edit... ** this works with a plastic tank, not a metal one!
