Has anyone used JB weld to repair a crack in the upper engine cowling, just trying to make it water tight. I can hardly notice the crack but it is 9 inches long and all the way through the plastic. thanks

If it is plastic, depending on what type of plastic, jb weld will make a good temporary cosmetic repair, but as soon as you try to flex it, it will probably crack again...
You might try welding the plastic...look on the web for plastic welding...
You could use one of the many plastic repair epoxies on the market and use some drywall fiberglass tape to reinforce the crack...you will need to rough the surface really well, apply the tape, then the epoxy...
Here is a link to some 3M plastic repair products...

Re: Engine cowling

yup its an OB and plastic, I picked up some JB for plastic. the crack is on the top and there are no pieces missing its just a simple crack from trimming up to far and pushing against a shorter seat I had mounted in the rear for this trip. I thought I might dremel a small V underneath the crack and fill with JB weld. but am open to other ideas.

Plastic welding kit from harbor freight would work better and be more permanent. JB Weld might hold for a while though as a quick fix.
