Engine cover rebuild advice

I'm starting my restore on my 89 Sea Ray and the first piece was my engine cover. I've rebuilt the whole thing but now I have some questions.

First I'm worried about sealing it so I don't have to rebuild again in a year. I'm wanting to fiberglass. Should I get coat? Or cover with vinyl afterwards?

Also, how should I insulate the inside? Anyone know of any links where someone has done this before?

Thanks guys, any help is appreciated!

if the build is strong enough on its own, glass is not necessary. You can seal the wood with epoxy or use WoodOnGlass recommended mix

If you wanted to strengthen the build and seal it at the same time, glass the inside and outside. Since this part is subject to frequent heavy use (such as people stand and sit on it) I would go for a layer of 1708 all around. Pre-wet the wood with poly resin first and let it cure then you can start glassing. Not doing so will starve the fabric out of the resin quick *The dry wood will absorb all the resin out of the fabric) which will lead to a poor laminate.

All marine supply stores carry different kinds of insulators. The most common is a material look like soft foam covered with reflective foil
