engine compression relief for a 1966 33hp Johnson

I was reading some of the answers for problems with this motor and one of the replies was to disable compression relief befoe doing a compression test. Were is this valve located and how do you disable it. thanks Mouldmaker

I don't believe your mtr has one but if I'm wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected.

I had a slightly older (1960 ish ) evinrude 40 hp . . . it had the compression relieve as a lever mechanism on the pull start. the lever mechanism would depress a small valve in each cylinder as you pulled the cord to start it. the electric start obviously, did not need the relief valves activated

So, I believe it would be more of a lever mechanism associated with the pull-start, rather than a valve.

This was only about 40+ years ago, so I'm not 100% on it.

IF yours has them, you'll see two spring-loaded valves on the cylinders next to the spark plugs. Not sure they used them in mid-60's.

1961 or 1962 was the last year the relief system was used. It was first introduced on the 1957 35hp.

The 33hp never had compression relief.
