Elvin, need HELP finding part

Elvin, you may or may not remember me. We had a few discussions back in spring about my 2005/2006 Mercury 9.9 which is actually a Tohatsu 9.8/9.9.

Anyway, just FYI I just found the lower end of my motor has been victim to freezing water. I just took apart everything tonight and near as I can tell, it appears the only damage was to the propellor shaft housing itself. Both ears have cracked off where they bolted to the gear housing.

I looked on internet outboards and they only show a kit for a 9.8 2-stroke. Any chance you'd know what the part/kit is for this? (At least I am in no huge rush as they don't yet make an ice-breaker attachment for my boat.)

If your Merc 9.9 is actually a Tohatsu/Nissan 9.8A2 "in sheep's clothing", you can review the parts catalog on Elvin's excellent website at http://www.internetoutboards.com/PartsCatalogMenu.htm

Be careful with selecting a replacement for the lower unit casting. It appears that there is an "early" and a "late" style under the Nissan 9.8A2 listing. Not sure whether either interchanges precisely with the Merc.

Same part...We have now updated the description to reflect that all of the 2-stroke and 4-stroke 8 and 9.8 models use the same one. Tohatsu has four different part numbers for this same item( five if you count Mercury), but they are all the same other than paint color.

Ah, it is indeed a Tohatsu - and my prior 9.9 was a Nissan NS9.9B2 - so I was very pleased to find out this Merc was actually built by the fine folks at Tohatsu.
