It's a 2Hp made from 1954-56 by West Bend. It probably has an air cooled powerhead, but the exhaust might be water cooled. If so, there would be an impeller in the lower unit. Try www3.sears.com and enter 571.58211, you might get lucky but don't hold your breath.

Without me taking time to look up the number, let's just say that if it has fins on the powerhead like a motorcycle or lawnmower, it is air cooled, made by West Bend, later known as Chrylser, then Force. No fins, then it is water cooled and has a pump.

That West Bend/whatever air cooled motor is one of the few that is worth a durn. Unlike most it does not have a water pump to cool the exhaust. Instead, there is a small tube sticking out the exhaust outlet and curving forward. Prop wash forces water up through that tube which spills out at it's upper end to cool the exhaust. A trouble free system.

It does have fins like a motorcycle which made me think it was air cooled. Glad to hear the good news FR Thanks

Re: Elgin 2hp Model # 571 58211 need coil

I need a coil for this motor if anyone knows where to get one reasonable or a part number I can research. According to what I found a 50's style OMC coil will work as well. Anyone know of where?
