electrical problem

I have a 1998 Johnson 25HP electric start motor. Cannot get starter to kick in replaced starter button, still nothing. new battery, connections good. starter checks out ok, as does the solenoid at first motor would start up right away after you ran it, stopped and tried to start it again it wouldnt start with starter button you could then pull start it with a pull cord. andit would start the rest of the day using starter button. now you can nnly pull start it. any suggestions?

I have no experince with your motor,however, most motors have neutral interlock switch to keep starter from turning when motor is in gear. Maybe yours is misadjusted or broke? Alternatively trace voltage from start button to solenoid. See where it stops....

Got a model # ?? Is it a tiller model ?? Sounds like it.
