Whenever I have my fish finder on and I go to turn on the aerator, bilge, horn or any other electrical component they all turn off and will not turn back on. I am not sure what the issue is here. There are a mix of fuses in the fuse box and I am not sure what sizes need to be there. Any suggestion I am all ears. Thank You

Re: Electrical issue

Smoke eater.

You likely have a automatic re-set circuit breaker, and when you turn something on you blow it.

Unfortunately, your description is Really REALLY hard to help you out.

Some suggestions:
1. Start with configuration/type of boat.
2. maybe how is it wired, do you have a fuse box etc.
3. Be a little more descriptive of the actions and reactions (i.e. have you tried turning on the other electrical and not the fish finder, what happens?)

if you are confused, we can help by looking at pictures or wiring diagrams if you have it.

Re: Electrical issue

Thanks for the reply..The boat is a 2003 Sea Hunt Navigator CC. It does have a fuse box. I have noticed that the wiring is a little wackey looking. There are alot of wires connected to the gauge cluster and some of them are bridged together with a jump connector. (hope that made sense). If not I can post a pic. As far as actions and reactions what happens is that when I have the fishfinder on and aerator on things seem to be good for a while then I notice they both have shut off. So I proceed to turn the fish finder back on and nothing happens, so I wait a little while then try again and wallah it works again. Then there are some cases that when I try and turn both on it trips the fish finder off. The other evening I tried to turn my nav lights on and it knocked everything off. So I waited a little while and turned the aerator and finder back on and tried to turn on the anchor lights and everything worked fine. Then I tried to turn on the bilge and everything cut off. So I am totally confused. I really want to add a cd player and VHF radio but not sure if it is gonna work, unless I take it to the shop and pay a lot of money to have the problem fixed. Well I hope this was a little more precise. Thanks a million for the help.

Re: Electrical issue

This will be a bad battery connection causing this. Either the ground or the positive. Pull the lugs off the battery and hit them with a wire brush or sand paper till they are shiny., Then re-install.

Whats happening is you have high resistaance somewhere causing a lack of power, this is due to a corroded or bad connection. Your fish finder is a low consumption device so its getting plenty of power. However when you kick on something that draws more current especially something like lights, or your bildge pump, they are starving for power. THey draw all available power that is currently available in that line, thus everything else shuts down.

I kind of over simplified that but it's the jist of it.

Re: Electrical issue

Thank You very much I will do that..Now as far as the wiring itself, could my problem be caused by that as well. For instance, some of the copper on the inside looks a little green or black. Should I run new wire as well?

Absolutely! Get marine grade wire. It is tinned and will prevent the corrosion you are getting.
