Is there a way to put electric start on a 1989 motor that didn't come with it? Motor having issues with carb and my arm is about ready to fall off plus would just like to have electric start. Thanks Greg

Best to find a donor motor for the parts.---------New kit would be expensive.----------And if a motor is hard to start it usually is not an issue with the carburetor.----------What trouble shooting if any have you done ?

Before it wouldn't run at all took carb off and sprayed out every hole i could find put back on and fired up ran good when throttled up still idled kind off rough took back off again sprayed everything out started right up and idled fine with a little hiccup every once in awhile then discovered the roller for throttle that goes against the plastic piece that turns is missing so i took the black plastic piece off the top of carb and rolled some black tape around the post where roller is suppose to be and now it will start rev up and die took black tape off and does same thing like it is starving for gas took black plastic piece off again to see if gasket was on right and same thing don't really know what happened after took that piece off but something did any help would be really appreciated. Thanks Greg

both the roller and the black plastic cam can be purchased (maybe the plastic piece with the mark is in place -- not sure.) Recommend replacement. If used, find a roller that isn't grooved.

might find, though, that the carb still needs work. They have to be disassembled, metal parts soaked, every little opening cleaned (can of carb cleaner works, along with fine wire).

think I would take care of the cam roller issue first, then see if I could dial it in. Once tuned, the manual start would likely be fine (probably easier to crank than the older ones). I can manage them, and I'm old and lazy.

Donor motor is the way to go for elec start conversion, as described above, or find a running elec start motor for use. The Sailmaster or Yachtwin (both electrics) could be converted to regular shaft if you wanted, using the l.u. from your current motor.
