Electric start conversion

So I found a running 30hp Mariner with electric start that I plan to cannibalize for parts and convert a 1981 30hp Mariner to electric. The donor motor is serial 689 L 412368 (30EL) so I "think" it's a 1984. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Both are Yamaha built and all parts appear compatible.

Here's my question: the power unit on the newer motor appears to be in superior condition and it runs great. I haven't run a compression test on it yet but plan to. The mid section is too long and the lower unit has issues - I might be able to rebuild it as a spare. Would it be easier to convert my existing manual start to electric by swapping parts or just swap out the entire power unit? I have to use the mid section and lower unit of the 1981 motor regardless. Thanks in advance.
