Electric Motor Selection

hello, most lakes do not allow for gas powered motors anymore.....therefore, I would like to know what size electric motor would I need for a 20ft tri-hull boat to get around comfortably.

70 lb thrust or bigger. When it comes to trolling motors bigger is better. You never know when you might need that extra power.

A 20 foot tri-hull is a good size boat for an electric motor of any size. Just how big is the body of water and how far do you expect to travel. Keep in mind just because you have a couple batteries and an electric motor the motor will not move you very fast and the battery(ies) are not an inexhaustable supply of power. They have very limited capability. The bigger the motor and the faster you attempt to go the more juice is being sucked from the batteries. Batteries with large capacity (Ahr number) last longer than one with a smaller number. Group size 22 is a small battery while group 31 is a big one. But always look at the capacity label and those batteries need to be "deep cycles".
