Re: Electric choke not working

Check out your choke solenoid. First make sure your getting 12 volts at the solenoid when the choke is activated at the key. If no voltage or low voltage find out why. If good voltage then disconnect the solenoid and check it with an ohm meter to make sure there is no break in the windings inside the solenoid. There should be a small ohm reading if it is ok less than 1 ohm. No ohm reading means an open in the windings and a new solenoid is needed. If everything is ok then check for some sort of a mechanical obstruction to the choke operation. The plunger in my solenoid was full of crud and rusted fixed. Clean it up and use a little WD 40 to help repell moisture. Good luck JH

Might be time to clean the carbs. Bulb pumped good before trying to start? JH

I don't know about your engine but on mine the carb adjust procedure is to enrichen the mixture (turn screw counterclockwise) until some misfiring and then lean it down until the firing cleans up. This is done in gear, warm engine and at around 600 rpm. Keeps the carb on the rich side and aids in acceleration. This is just the opposite of all other adjustment procedures that I have learned on autos. Good luck JH

When I get to the lake first time trying to start. I have to shoot alittle bit of starter fluid. it will start right up. If not it takes along time. I seem like it flooding. or not getting enough gas

Re: Electric choke not working

If adding fuel manually helps then the problem is not too much fuel. Choke should help this but apparently its not. Proper idle misture setting might help, check your manual for the procedure on your engine. By the way, the Choke solenoid is hooked up to the carbs and turns some arms on the carb when activated? Is this just the first start of the day and then ok the rest of the time? JH
