Re: electric car advances.

Hows the payment going to be for the new electric cars. Do these place charge for the ammount of electricity used or do we just assume that electricity cost nothing to the places that fill up the electrics?

With my electric bill last winter I dont think I would like to switch to this new concept...

Re: electric car advances.

GM had an electric car years ago that seemed practical even then. Exxon found out and bought the patton before they could make them. You see the main issue with electric cars is that we can make our own electricity to charge the electric cars and not have to pay someone else to. We cant make our own gas and "someone" wants to keep it that way.........think about it

Round here if you generate your own electricity you are required to purchase the equipment and sell your excess capacity back to power company.

I know what you mean but Im talking about solar panels or small wind mills which wouldnt be any business of the power company.

Surely it can't be a surprise to anyone that dramatically increased electric power consumption could lead to increased power generating capacity needs, which will cost money that someone is going to need to pay.

And to do it in a environmentally friendly way is probably going to require nuclear, unless we can somehow figure out how to sequester carbon from a coal fired plant economically.

At least we would not be financing our enemies, and that alone should be worth something.

We are trying to fool mother nature :D

For and electric car to work it needs to do better or at least as good as a current ULEV like a Prius on a gallon of OIL

right now these places do not charge for electricity but they probably will in the long run, just a meter put in a dollar etc.

with low, only 40 miles yeah you would probably rehook during the day so there would be an issue for day time capacity.

However I have a meter regulator that regulates my daytime Peak power

Or if not then you pay extra, the electric builds more NUCLEAR power plants to supply the electricity.

Nuclear may not be the only option.

GE is working on Carbon Sequestration technology that will remove the CO2, as well as other pollutants, from coal fired plants. Of course that will be driven by Cap-n-Trade policy, as it would be difficult to compete with plants that can freely discharge them now with no consequence.

As stated I think companies need to get twice the bang for the buck. Such as using the waste CO2 and converting it to energy through algea or bacteria.
As of last month I started car pooling with 3 other guys from work. Now I only drive once a month. I was lucky and found three people that lived with in a mile of me.

The thing that's going to kill the oil companies is zoning laws. It used to be you COULD walk to work, and the grocery store, and so on. Now, businesses are in business parks way on the outskirts of town, and the people live on the OTHER side of town (or a different town), and drive 20-80 miles to/from work every day. Then, if you need to go shopping, you need to drive 10-20 miles to get to the stores.
Move to within 5 miles of your place of work, and you can bike it. Move within 2, and you can walk it. If you do office work, it's likely you could telecommute for a few days a week! Imagine, working off a laptop on your boat on a bright, sunny day.

Electric cars are a nice touch, but they're a band-aid over a sucking chest wound. We need self-contained communities again.

Sorry but i dont buy the global warming garbage.Just another way for the Al Gore's of the world to try and control us.I say stop doing business with China or put a stiff import duty on goods from there. That way the greedy company executives will bring the manufacturing base back to the USA.We also need to use our own resources here at home.We have as much if not more oil here as anywhere else .Why in the name of god are we not pumping our own oil?

I flat out disagree, but I'd like to see the thread keep going so I'll keep my mouth shut. No point in nuking a perfectly good thread.

Re: electric car advances.

If every residence had any kind of generating device that provided more electric than it could use. The extra power must be sold back to the electric company. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this would happen,,,,,,,why would we need an electric plant? I know that is not realistic, but it would have a balancing effect on being able to handle the new extra capacity.

Hydroelectric - I see many small streams that has potential for generating a large home. Some streams could supply even a small community. These would even help in flood control.

Wind - Small windfarms for locally used electric

Solar - Roof top panels on all buildings and addition to windmills

Also take into account, if America went at least half electric/oil. There would be competition between the two. Cutting half of our need for oil no doubt cause oil to drop dramatically. This would allow the not so fortunate people to continue driving their SUVs and using their boats. Like me :D
