Re: Electric Brakes

Even if the backing plate is not perfectly aligned, the brake shoes self-align to a certain degree. They're capable of a fair amount of movement once they actuate.
This is the reason I was worried about my application. I put on disc brakes so I could tolerate the backing plate not being perfectly concentric but had to be perfectly aligned in all other axis.

My boat trailer also came with brakes on only one axle. Not sure who in their right mind would put brakes on a single axle with a 24' boat as heavy as mine.

Nice job :thumb:

I do like that welder, and your welds look great. I have a simple Hobart 210 handler, not as nice as yours. Still wanting to get better at welding, but have a lot more wire to burn up before I reach that goal

His welder is a TIG so his welds will almost always look better than a MIG weld.

If you have never welded with TIG, it's very similar to oxy acetylene gas welding.

Yep I knew that, thanks. I'm just starting (last 5 years) to get more into welding. Have and old Lincoln 225 stick which I was never any good at. Picked up the Hobart and I'm getting a lot better but I haven't even started using gas yet. Just using flux core wire due to many jobs are outside in the wind welding of a dump truck or back hoe. Tri-mix gas would help me a bunch but still need a lot more practice

Most of my MIG welding has been flux core as well but I only have a 110V MIG. The gas I use is just Argon 75% CO2 25% when I use gas with my MIG. Nice not having all the slag to clean up.

If you want to learn a lot about welding go to weldingweb.com. I basically bought the TIG I purchased from the advice of those guys. One of the guys that is a professional welder invited 10 of us to his shop to teach us how to weld better. Was very fun trying out all his equipment.

Yeah. Weldingweb.com is an outstanding place to get welding info!

Also, if you go to Youtube, you can view videos at weldingtipsandtricks - YouTube too.

LOT of how-to videos on all types of welding!

Yes and it's really easy to make a GTAW (TIG) weld look good!

If you have never welded with TIG, it's very similar to oxy acetylene gas welding.
And much easier
