Sank 36 years ago today. Serves as a grim reminder that the great lakes can get as mean as anything out there. Everyone please keep the crew and family in your thoughts.

Haven't been up on Whitefish for a few years, but it's still a favorite spot. The stuff in tribute to her in the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is very nice.

As the most famous, we should remember the Edmund Fitzgerald AND all of the mariners that have lost their lives on the Great Lakes moving the goods that make OUR lives good. There are more than most realize,

I grew up next to one of the Great Lake's, Lake Michigan and I remember it well. I've seen Gordan Lightfoot sing the song live.

They, the Great Lakes, are NOT lakes, they are oceans, with the perils that come with that.

I remember that day too-SAD.

The G.L.'s have scared the *&^^%%$ out me a few times. Beware, they are serious bodies of water.

RIP, the Mariners of the "Edmund". Peace be with you.

I read a book many years ago about the great lakes and shipwrecks, the conditions on the great lakes are so unique that ocean captains turn over control of their vessels to lake trained captains.

I've got several books on Great Lakes Ships and the over 300 wrecks on the Lakes. It's incredible reading, and captures my interest faster than the most involved naval battle. Definitely waters to be respected.
