Re: economic and decent quality yacht?

i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i don't think "small and inexpensive" and "economic and decent quality yacht" are words that belong together......and probably not luxury yachts either for that matter....boating is an expensive habit, starting with fuel :( .....even for what little boat i got it is expensive to own and operate..... perhaps yer view of small and inexpensive is different than my view though. i would think that my rig would perhaps be covered by small(16') and inexpensive(1972), luxury or yacht, i'm not even close to that unless ya consider seats and a steering wheel a luxury. ;) i don't....maybe ya could redefine yer question as to what is small and inexpensive in your eyes. the word yacht by itself useally makes me think of dollar signs with many 0's behind them too....

oh, welcome to iboats. you'll find many friendly, knowledgeable folk here......

"Small, inexpensive and decent quality" are all very ambiguous terms. Compared to what?

How long is "small", how much is "inexpensive"? what is your definition of "decent quality"?

The US Coast Guard calls anything under 20' (around 6m) a small boat, but other regulations suggest that under 16' (5m) is small.

Some of my rich honky friends call anything under 30' small, anything under $100K inexpensive and only Boston Whalers, Parkers, Hatteras and the like decent quality.

Other friends call any boat that uses less than 100HP small, anything over $4K expensive and anything that floats (initially) decent quality. :)

Minimum size will be set by number of people on board (including crew) and range. As the guys already said, expense and quality are very relative. Tell us more.

Kelly Cook

Late model Bayliner. You can get a nice 30 footer for under $100K, brand new. Stay away from older bayliners, especially from the late 80's and early 90s.

Bayliner 288 Classic

Looking at your link, it seems you already know where to look. Your site is nothing but links to boats for sale.

Marinette Yachts are very good quality. Lightweight makes them very economical to operate considering it is a boat. I own a 28' and it weighs under 6000 lbs. dry. The lightweight does make them a little light for large bodies of water.

Thad
