In a bind. From previous post my new long block was running rich. After testing replacing every component possible finially sent the ECM back to Mercury to get it reflashed. Well it will not accept the flash upgrade so it is coming back the same as it was.
My question does anyone know of an aftermarket product even if it means a complete new top end.
The long block is a Michigan Marine 7.4L part # 7400RRR. Replacing a 1999 7.4L MPI

The ECM is note listed as obsolete but Mercury is not providing a Production run either.

Re: Ecm

So I ordered a new ECM back in June. Mercury said it would be available July 18th then July 24 then August 3rd then August 17th. Get the point? Now the repair shop wants me to come get the boat and take it home. The former Service Manager Oh didn't I tell you he no longer works for the company Said he did not want me to run the new engine due to wash down of the cylinder walls from running rich. The mechanic working on the boat from the beginning and now with more authority but not the new service manger said it would be OK to run it for say 20 hrs but not 100. It will take 5 hrs running to get it home there is 2 hours on this new engine all on muffs. I called the old service manger ( I found out where he went ) and he agreed with the mechanic. His concern all along was that he did not want me running the new engine all summer when Mercury said it was going to be a few weeks. That we should wait. But since Mercury has been screwing us around for most of the summer I might as well take the boat home. For you locals the boat is on Vancouver Island and I am on the mainland. Getting the boat home would be nice at least we can enjoy it at the dock. If I were to bring it home I would take a couple of days and do a proper engine breakin. I have the instructions from Michigan Motors. However I do have one small question.
Do I run the engine or not?
