eBay wins suit, how will it change CraigsList?

For those that don't know, eBay owns 28% of Craigslist and has for several years.

Today eBay had a ruling go in their favor (they sued for the right to have someone on the board of CL) and CraigsList lost a long running battle. Basically the court said someone with a 28% stake in a company had some rights in determining the companies (and their stocks) future.

Given that both companies have spent silly amounts of money on this case it seems obvious its about control. What is your take, will eBay fundamentally change CL?

Ebay/PP biggest nightmare Google will pick up the slack.

If they're not careful more and more people will start fading away from CL and one of the other similiar websites (like backpage.com maybe) will benefit from it and become more popular, especially if the censoring on it starts getting tighter.

Ebay got big because it was a good idea, CL killed ebay because it was a better idea. If ebay throttles CL something else will be created because a better idea doesn't go away.

People will always gravitate to the free option.

90% of my advertising is on craigslist. it is a good tool, to get your name out, and has really helped our business.

28 % is still not a controlling interest. all the court did is give a big cat a place at the table. 90% of his time will be wasted there, if the rest of the board does not want a change.

I also use it to promote my business. It used to provide really good leads, but in the past 6 months it's been bringing me only people who want to completely remodel their kitchens for less than $2000.

I'm not sure how CL makes money, though. I don't see any pop-up ads or banners or anything like that. There are no fees for listings.

They charge for certain types of ads like real estate and rentals I believe.

I got out of Ebay a long time. Used to buy and sell there. But then the fees started to get high. Same for paypal transactions.

Started using Craigslist and it's been wonderful. You don't have to use just your local craigslist. I go to http://www.searchtempest.com/ put in your price, item and how many miles.

Then call the person or mail them. Ask if they will ship the item. Most will do it. I'll still go papal for that. They don't charge you to send money. (Yet.) how ever I usually shoot a couple more bucks on the final price to cover that stupid charge.
