Early Mercruiser sterndrive shocks??

I'm not sure of the exact year but to the best of my knowledge I have a very early stern drive - 1964 maybe? On a 19ft Sabercraft, Straight 6 GM engine.<br /><br />My problem is in removing the two mini shock absorbers that sit above the trim hydrolics. I'm trying to pull the whole leg off to give it the once over. At one end I'm looking at a 1/2" diameter pin that has a threaded hole in the centre? And the other end of the shock sits on a theaded rod that looks like it goes right through the middle of the upper portion of the leg.<br /><br />Nothing seems to want to move and I'm stumped as to how get it moving.<br /><br />Any ideas?
