Early 1960s Evinrude 75hp Starflite Barn find - Worth it?

Friend of mine sent me pics of an early 1960s Evinrude. They were unable to find a serial number so I don't know if this is worth even looking at. Anyone at first glance see a barn find treasure or at least something to part out? dirty but should be interesting to restore if the innards are ok .
must be a big guzzler. Maybe 7.5g/ H at wot ...$35-40 /h

I guess you already figured out somebody has put a Johnson powerhead on that Evinrude.

Aside from that, don't dare think you will make any money restoring it. Do it as a project of love if you want.

I was curious if this is rare enough of an engine to take it apart and sell for parts. I wouldn't try to restore to sell outright. But, I didn't want to scrap it if there are parts more capable hands would want for their restoration project.

That colour looks like from the late 50s, but wasn't Johnson painting its engines white by 58?
I guess they did make a 58 50 in that colour,

So this might not even be a 75hp, but a 50 under a 75 cowl
Edit: the Heads look like the ones used on the 89.5 block, not the 70.7 block

Good point on the color. I did think that red looked strange. Now I'm going out a bit stranger. Ward's 60hp Sea King???

Possibly another cobbled together motor, from various parts. There is the possibility of someone going berserk with a spray bomb as well.

A 50 and 60 would have cylinder heads like these

For sure there parts on there that someone is looking for or will be at some point. I hate seeing stuff scrapped especially when parts are NLA. We're happy to buy used serviceable parts!

Those are rife with "water in the power head." Even if it's been stored vertical and with the shroud in place, IF it's been outdoors "on a boat" those "mouths to the sky" carb barrels will intake moisture, condensation dripping from the shroud OR LEAKS or LACK of a shroud, and then you have ...............junk.

I have one the power head is fine, but the reed plate, which has an interesting "dam" structure, is one heck of a mess.

I've got a couple of them running "for fun" but GOD they are huge and heavy I've actually got several of various age and HP one or two were FREE, one or two were 50-70-80 bucks. Problem for me is most you find are long shaft, and my boat is sposed to be short. OMC seems to have changed the drive shafts specs once a month, because the interchangeability on converting them from long to short seems to be poor

AND NOW an ANNOYING story from the old days.

From about 80-81 to maybe 89 I worked at what was then a large local auto / industrial parts supply. We had "everything." Full line of auto/ light truck parts, popular parts for over the road/ logging trucks, made hydraulic hoses by the hundreds, stocked a full line of Gates industrial/ auto belts, and sold Browning sprockets, chain, and sheaves, Fafnir and Timken, and on and on. We had a complete welder/ supplies/ gas bottles store and repaired welders and oxy/ acet components

ANYHOW late one late fall some guy comes in and waited for me. "He had heard" that I was the electronics expert. He had an old V4 OMC that was electronic ignition, and back then the Marina wanted ?? 500 bucks or some such for a replacement ignition module. He wanted to know "was there" some auto parts he could adapt "cheaper."

I told him I had no good ideas on the subject, and he would not leave witih that answer. We were busy, and I finally told him, "look, you might just screw around and get something working, and IF that quit you late some afternoon, you might spend a cold night up on Pend Oreille

"OH," he says, "THIS IS NOT ON A BOAT. THIS IS FOR A HOME BUILT HELICOPTER!!"

Can’t help at all on this motor, Agree on hating to see NLA parts being scrapped. I mess with motorcycles not boats but it’s the same in the long run, once they are gone no getting them back. Having the space to store the stuff is a reason lots end up in the weather getting ruined.
