E-rude '88 28 SPL Grommet

I have a 1988 e-rude 28 hp SPL and wondered if there is supposed to be a grommet or boot of some sort to protect the battery cables and engine harness where they exit the cowl. I tried to get one from the dealer, but their computer did not show one. It is hard to believe one is not required.

If anyone knows if there is supposed to be one please let me know, or better yet, what the part number is.

My 89' 28 Special did not have one either. But BRP shows one. #36. Part number 0031370 Grommet. It is listed as "No longer available"...

Since BRP no longer sells it I have to wonder - - - has anyone fabricated one out of hose, or another product to get by?
