DVA Adapter Vs Peak Hold Feature on DMM

Are they the same thing ?

I just noticed my Fluke 83 had a peak hold feature on it.. After reading how the DVA adapters function it sounds like the same thing

Peak hold should be close. A DVA adapter is basically a capacitor which charges to the peak voltage.

Not the same thing.
A peak hold will work for slow AC or DC voltages. For fast transient signals, the meter will probably miss sampling the peak. You might get lucky....
The capacitor in the DVA adapter will charge to the peak voltage and discharge slow enough for the meter to capture.

You also have to make sure your meter can read voltage as high as you are testing.

Got a set of probes on the way in the mail, was just getting a little antsy to get into the troubleshooting.
