We need thread like dumb stuff you find working on or reading about, just for fun maybe.

I'm on the Heavy Equipment Forum and member Vetech63 has come across a real good one. Here's the Story

Got a call over a week ago about a Broce broom that would not start. I didn't have time to look at it at that moment, so the super put in a new battery. Next morning he called again........no start, no electric anywhere. He jumper cables it, starts and runs all day. He decided that the new battery they put in was defective, so he goes and gets another. He again has to jump start it with a new battery, runs all day again. He calls me saying "I don't think it's the alternator. It just doesn't make sense.....I'm frustrated.......when can you get here?"

I go up there yesterday and find......

HMMMMM........that's a new one!

Ron White has a whole special on that

When I worked at Cummins, we built up full engines for the fire suppression industry. Each engine needs to be dyno'd for 1 hour to be certified

Engine on the stand just barely starts, however no power, and no boost pressure. The tech pulls the turbo and injectors and is just about to pull the fuel pump...... then I ask if the plastic plugs were removed from the CAC before the engine was assembled...... pull the CAC mounting bolts and two clamps and both plastic caps are still there, one collapsed against the grid heater, one sucked into the CAC

When I was in the Army......... (long time ago) I saw two cute female medics broke down with an old Dodge ambulance.......... Some mechanic attempted to fix the electrical problems under the hood with Band Aids............ anything in a pinch I guess

a few years ago my son came for a visit and said his car engine was running rough so we poked around and sure enough it had a steady miss so after we figured out which cylinder we hooked a timing light to the plug wire and had spark. Checked the plug and it was wet and then we saw a where a field mouse had chewed up the wires to the injector.

had that happen to the brother in law. He came over with another motor for his Toyota. He said change the motor, this one is shot. I said let me diagnose the old one, nope, just change it, we already know it’s bad. So I did. The new used motor ran exactly the same. I diag the the thing, had two injectors not hitting. Peeled back the wiring harness and found broken ground wires in there! Repaired and running perfectly. lol.
on another note I told him that we should change the rear main seal as it’s easier to get to now instead of later, he said no to that also. After a week it started leaking pretty bad, oh well……

Years back when my daughter still lived at home. She called and said her car, Honda civic, would not go into gear. Turns out chipmunks chewed her wiring harness. Was able to do some splicing. One of the drawbacks of living where it’s heavily wooded are critters getting to your vehicles. My blower motor started clanking in my truck. Turns out a chipmunk worked his way up the fresh air intake chewed through cabin air filter and deposited an acorn in my blower motor. 😫.

My wife and her best friend (2 blondes) decided to take my brand new Civic EX, 5 speed for a spin. Just jumped in the car and took off.

A half hour later I get a call that the car will not start. Jumped in her car and drove the 20 minutes to Frederick to check it out.

I arrived to find not only the girls sitting in middle a busy intersection with a cop with his lights on sitting behind them, but a tow truck in route to clear the intersection. Upon arrival I jumped in the car, started right up and i moved it out of the busy intersection.

By this time the tow truck had arrived and everyone’s attention turned to why the car wouldn’t start before.

Had Mrs. Dingbat demonstrate her starting procedure for us. She put the gear shift in neutral, turned the key, nothing. Tried it a second time, same thing. The third time I asked her to try pushing in the clutch to see what happens…

Everyone had a good chuckle….and the girls went on their way, in her car…lol

My brothers car, 62 chevey impala, the transmission went out. So we removed it and installed a three speed transmission, clutch, and all the linkages for a floor shift. Left the column in from the automatic. Well around a week later my brother calls and said it wouldn't start. I went there and somehow the Colum shifter was in drive. Put it in park and away ya go. Safety switch must have been on the Colum back then. First thing we did then is change the Colum to the other one. All parts came from an old one we were scrapping. LOL

not me , my brother used to drive B double trucks from outback north Queensland to Melbourne around 4000 Km down .
on inspection of the truck when he got to the depot he found a baby dingo pup sitting in a area between the fuel tank and the chassis rail.
that little pup must have been there the whole trip.

brother not being one with a love for critters had this thing by the scruff of the neck and hands it to me '' SAYS, YOU WANT A DOG " .then told me where it come from .

i kept the little tacker for a bit then had to get rid of it as i found dingo's dont make good pets when you live in the city.
