Re: Dumb question on Running lights.

The stern light that came with my Glastron is on a 4 or 5' pole and must be a no glare light because unless you get near eye level with the light there are no problems.

scoutabout, strictly speaking, you might be out of compliance with USCG regs...in my state the USCG "rules of the road" are incorporated by reference into the boating laws.

technically, you have a separate stern light and forward facing white light some specified distance higher than the bow lights, but less than, is it 32'? are allowed to substitute the 360? white.

crossing situation, if you see their red light, you're the make-way vessel - if you see a green, you're the stand-on.

btw, ozark guy, RRR applies to channel markers.......on inland waters, 'returning' means upstream, or with your stern to the dam on a reservior..........

Interesting thread... I am wireing my lights on my 20 ft pontoon and thought I would just wire both the front and back lights on one switch to be safe... but it would be wrong because other boats would think I'm moving if I was anchored???

Correct. Anchor lights and Nav lights need to be on separate switches. Anchor light only when you're not moving ... nav lights (as per USCG and state guidelines for your boat) when in motion.

And we need to keep with the forum rules. This topic's been asleep since '07 ... and we're puttin' it back down ;)
