Dull cloudy finish on Q6

Recently purchased a used 2006 Tahoe Q6. Overall boat is in really good shape. The main issue is the black gelcoat is hazy and cloudy in some places. I bought and used some rubbing compound and a power buffer and then bought some restorer and wax at BPS and also some more expensive #3M restorer/wax ($30 a bottle) at a boating shop but can't seem to get the shine back to a level that I am satisfied with. I have spend 8-10 hours working on this problem and have resided myself that maybe the fading/haze is not ever going to be much better. If I apply spray on wax it helps but the problem is still there when the wax dries up. The prevoius owner had the boat under a shelter and a cover on it but it still was exposed to the sun on both sides through out the day. What else if anything should I try? Elbow grease and expensive wax doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Dull cloudy finish on Q6

I would post this in a different forum section - you might get more hits.

Post it in "Restore" or general "Boat Topics" - otherwise look below at similar threads. From what i have seen almost any amount of oxidation/haze can be removed to like new condition! And sounds like you have the desire and will to do so (time is what is needed!). Readup on removing oxidation.... take a lot of pictures also (without spray wax on)

Do a search through PrinceValium's posts to find his Black Tahoe that he polished up to better then new! I think he had some youtube videos that he had posted or learned from... otherwise there was a post recently about removing crud from a boat stored forever in a barn. lots of good product talk.
