Re: Dubai Ports International.

What disgraceful hysteria! What disgraceful racism! How collectively STUPID can Congress get?

Very comparable to interning Americans of Japanese heritage in concentration camps in 1942.

What's next? Banning Arabs and Muslims from Government jobs, corporate office, law enforcement, etc?

What the libs and the brain dead isolationist republicans don't think about is retribution against US companies doing business in primarily Muslim countries by the governments of those countries. That would make $8,000,000,000.00 look like chicken feed.

Any new ideas for earning the hate of the Muslim world?

Re: Dubai Ports International.

I think there is more to come out on this deal, and the Dubai company.

If it were solely racist based, and pandering to fears, then it was reprehensible...

But JB, abject fear has been a political tool this administration has used to politicize national security since 9/11, and the "War on Terror". You can't be shocked when both sides learn that it is effective, and use it.

I agree with you a rational debate is preferable, but politics is hardball, and everyone plays to win. If the debate were among rational, intelligent people of integrity, we'd get better candidates, and better leaders.

I wonder if there would have been this much trouble if this deal had been done at the begining of a presidential term.

As an outsider this all seems to me like politicians trying to score points.

JB's right, all that has come from this is a backward step in US UAE relations, the reprocusions of which could be very expensive for US industry.

I thought there was to be a 45 day evaluation going on? Depending on the National reaction of the UAE it could cost my company a couple of million bucks.

Dubai, one of Arab Emirates, represents everything the fundamental, radical Muslims hate. There has never been a car bomb go off in Dubai, no westerner ever kidnapped there. Gotta ask, why?!?!? That place is chocked full of westerners, big money, business... How come there is never any violence in the name of Allah there?!?!? Me thinks Dubai is paying off the really bad Muslim guys to stay away…that would translate as support for terrorism.

Nope. Wouldn’t trust the Dubai folks. Something’s not right there.

I can't believe what I am reading on here. I'm a conservative first and a republican second, and nowhere close to being liberal. I'm glad the UAE ports deal is off....thank God. I'm sorry but I don't drink the kool-aid of the Bush administration ( everything he wants is good) and I don't give a rats arse if some folks think this is racist. The operator of a port has a-lot to do with it's security, I know this first hand. I don't trust the UAE. I'm an American, yes I believe in trade, but some things are more important than trade....this is one of them, and this needs to be operated by an american company or at least a company that is above reproach. This is not a defeat for George Bush, but a victory for America. By the way, someone asked if Muslums should be banned from government jobs.....YES, they want to kill us "infidels" and they are not tollerant of our way of life, so they have no place in our government.

Re: Dubai Ports International.

Like I said before, I dont want any other non-us company running our ports. I dont care what country they are from. Because these companies will have access to security documents and once those documents leave the country, we no longer control who will see those documents.

Its as simple as that.

I dont want a non-us company running our airports or any other point of access into this country. If they currently do, I want them out.

It doesnt bother me that Japan owns all the hotels, or if the UAE owns all the rental car agencies in the USA. I like the global market.

But any company that is concerned with national security should be USA owned. I dont like that U.K. company was allowed to buy a power company here in the USA.

Remember when everyone was upset when a Chinese company was going to buy Unocal???

But I agree with you on congress, they are making idiots of themselves as usual. All a bunch of election year pandering.

Ken

Re: Dubai Ports International.

Oh boy, this is gonna get even better now.

Heard talk of "tax incentives" this morning to entice an "American" company to enter the frey.

I can here it now, all the whinning about "corporate welfare" and taking food out of the mouths of children and the elderly.

I see Haliburton has been sort of joked about above. The reality is they are probably one of a small few capable to do the takeover.

Here it comes... Haliburton buys out DPW and gets tax incentives to boot! Can it get any better than this!

Now, are we going to kick out the Chinese from running the Port terminals on the Left coast??

Islam and the Muslim on the street has about as much to do with hating the USA and terrorism as Christianity and the average Christian had to do with the KKK and lynching "uppity (offensive term)".

This lynch mob hysteria about all Arabs and all Muslims hating us and wanting to kill us is the product of yellow journalism and shameless political scandalmongering.

It will get us into WWIII, and it is evidence of the success of the terrorists. . .we have been terrorized into irrational fear and have turned against half of the worlds peaceful people.

Beg to differ on that.....I think there are quite a few Iranians who might be just a little sore that we backed Saddy against them.....
Not to mention that we blew half of their navy out of the water in one day.....
I can't think of a good reason for a a non-U.S. company to run any point of entry into the U.S.
It doesn't matter which....
In fact, it should be agin' the law ;) ....JK

Like most (all?) repressive regimes, Iran was run/controlled by a minority of the populous with their hands on a majority of the power, and the Ayatollah Granola as a figurehead. Very few Iranians supported their gov’t or Khomeini when Iran was at war with Iraq, us backing Iraq. Don’t think there is much to worry about in the get-even dept.

There are more Muslims in Indonesia, Pakistan and China than in Iraq, SA and Iran combined.

We have (no, HAD) no better friend in the middle east than the UAE in general and Dubai in particular. That includes SA.

Re: Dubai Ports International.

So why is it, that as congress talks about taking control of our boarders and dealing with the flood of Illegal aliens sucking our wellfare and healthcare system dry, that all of the idiots come out of the woodwork claiming this is racism as well ? Seams to me, some people want our country to be vulnerable with porous boarders and ports. Congress is finally getting the message....this is a good thing. Call it racist, isolationism, call it any thing you want.....it's time for americans to take back America. I won't sleep untill our boarders and our ports are controlled by Americans, or long standing allies, not the flavour of the week.By the way, the UAE, were not "investing in America"....they were purchasing a right from the Britts, there was no net gain to America from this.

Re: Dubai Ports International.

I have to say that i'm with JB on this one.
The President had it right, it goes to show to what lengths politicians will go to in order to get re-elected.
Perhaps those that opposed the contract,s sale to the UAE, would also like for the UAE to opt for Eurpoean and Chinese arms and other manufactured goods.
Perhaps we should close our military bases that are on their territories and not allow them to service our military ships as they have done for the past six years.
Perhaps we can fight this war on terror without the help of our middle eastern allies.
There is a much bigger picture to this, the President pegged it correctly, the attention seekers in Washington aided by a shortsighted headlines grabbing news media could'nt have been more wrong in their actions. :(
