I just picked up a boat w/ twin 270 outdrives driven by volvo penta gas 4 cylinder engines. My question is can I put dual props on this and will I see a 30% fuel savings by doing so?
Thanks

I believe duo-props are for the 280 and 290 dont think the 270 could be wrong though

I think you'd need the 2.3:1 ratio DP lower which is somewhat rare, but often found for a better price used. 30%?
doubt it.

Volvo never offered a DP option for any 4 cylinder engine, just not enough torque or HP to spin two props at the same time.
The 2.3 ratio is what a V6 with 175 to 190 hp uses.

the 270 drivs were only single props and cannot be converted. Only the 280 and 290 style is able to take the duoprop lower unit. You also would not see a 30% fuel savings not sure where you saw that benefit advertised.

They can be converted, I've done it.

25% is advertised fuel savings, but thats not on 4 cylinder engines. They can't even use a DP lower.

I know for sure the Duo Prop will retro fit back to the 250. the shimming must be done no matter what. the 4 cylinder ratio would be the 2.30:1 but like said there isnt quite enough torque. if your going to pull this off, twin engines will certainly help.
you can usually pick up a used 2.30 cheaper then the other ratios .
