i am trying to get to my water pump to replace it. i got the lower part off and removed the part that goes to the prop. now when i try to remove the part with the pump the gear linkage stops it. how do i disconnect the gear linkage? of does it stay on and i'm just missing something?

thanks

You are going about it totally wrong. The pump is in the bulge a few inches above the flat anti-cavitation plate. You unbolt it up there, not do what you did.

There is an oval inspection plate on the side of the midsection. Take that off and the shift rod disconnect is inside.
