I have a'97 Evinrude 6HP. I need to install a new impeller and key. I have dropped the lower unit, but the drive shaft did not drop with the lower unit. I don't think it is possible to install the impeller and key without having the drive shaft free from the motor?
A local repair shop said they sometimes are just stuck and suggested hanging the motor upside down by the drive shaft and pouring in plenty of bolt loosener/wd40 and just wait until it frees. After 2 weeks no movement.
Is it possible that I have missed something? Is there anything that holds the drive shaft in the motor together? Manual doesn't show anything?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
