drilling holes in transom for speedo and transducer

ive been putting this off for a while but its time to drill the holes for the speedo and transducer in the new transom. im thinking off drilling a 1/2" hole for the speedo then either pb or 3m 5200 a carbon fiber tube about 3/8 in the hole so there a small amount of room for the pb/5200 to seal the carbon to the wood then feeding the speedo tube throught the hole and putting a 90 degree plastic fitting so the tube runs down the transom then sealing the inside of the hole with silicone before applying the cover piece this way the tube could be removed in years to come with out the seal to the transom inside begin ruined. the carbon fiber is from a old fishing pole that had a broken end i was just going to sand the shinny off it as its tappered over 12' so one piece will be the right size.
do you guys think this is overkill.......im just worried that if i straight drill put speedo tube in and fill with 5200 theres a chance in years to come that water is going to get in the transom.

Re: drilling holes in transom for speedo and transducer

i considered running on the outside only but the speedo is on the other side of the splashwell so im not sure if it will look tacky to cross the back with the tube plus theres no nice way with the speedo to get it to go over the 90 degree turn at the top of the transom the transducer could go over the top as thats real close to where the steering etc comes out and thats a large hole to get the plug through the transom. i wish i had added a 1/4 stainless tube near the live well pumps and epoxed it in when i had the chance then added a internal transducer as the transom looks nicer with nothing attached to it......but the budget for this build is getting tight and its time to go fishing
