Drain process

Hi, advice please...
I have been trying to winterise my 4.3 v6 Mercruiser engine.
This one has a drain tap to open and a couple of plugs to remove.
However, when draining the water, it seems to go on forever. I was draining for at least 25 mins with a good flow.
Did this last year but the boat was out of the water. This year she is in the water. Is there something that I have missed or not closed etc?
I have tried lifting the drive and have also closed the seacock inlet.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome

Is your motor closed (has heat exchanger) or open cooled (raw water)?

What year and serial numbers are best

Hi,
The system is open (raw).
The engine is a 4.3l V6 mercruiser (petrol - fuel injection) on a a 1991 Searay 290DA.
There are 2 engines but assume the answer will be the same for both.

youre trying to drain your motors in an express cruiser while in the water?

the water will stop flowing once the boat sinks.

seriously, your engine blocks are below the waterline.

Being a V6 I'll assume they are Alpha 1 Gen 2 drives

The raw water hose comes from the drive to the power steering cooler above the rear of the motor. If the boat sits low in the water you may need a short piece of 1 inch PVC pipe. If the transom is higher then may not need it, but have one on hand just in case with a hose clamp

Disconnect the hose going into the power steering cooler at rear of motor on starboard side of motor. Raise the hose up if needed, place PVC pipe in the end and clamp.

Once pipe is installed tie up out of the way securely. Now drain everything and winterize as needed

If it has a Bravo drive, disconnect hose going into the raw water pump. It's hard walled hose and raise it up and install PVC pipe, clamp and secure off high
