Drain on bottom

The 14' tinny that I'm rebuilding and converting had the drain plug hole on the bottom with a shield plate under the boat (back is open). Any other boat I've owned had the plug on the transom. Does anyone see this as a problem? Will water still drain out when moving at speed and the plug is pulled, as it does with a transom plug?

Re: Drain on bottom

i dont see why not, as long as the plug is back in the bilge against the transom and the boat is tilted at an angle that allows water to flow to the bilge. Should drain better actually as there is no lip to hold water as with a transom drain hole about 1/2 inch up from the bilge floor.
