DP-S drive power tilt/trim question

On my 96 DP-S drive, when i raise or lower the lower unit with the trim switch, the pump will chatter when going up or down. It sounds like power is being interrupted momentarily as it's moving. However, if i use the trailer button with the trim button it will go up or down smoothly? Any thoughts or ideas?? Thank you!

Re: DP-S drive power tilt/trim question

Sounds like air in the system, or maybe water. Check the trim pump reservoir.
If it is electrical, it could be just a loose or corroded connection somewhere in the system, or the motor itself failing.

I was thinking it has to be an electrical issue. My thought was maybe there is 1 solenoid/relay for the trim switch and 1 for the Tilt. Shouldn't be water/air in the syatem if it works fine if i use the trailer tilt button correct? Thanks!

What is your engines full model number? Need all the letters following the engine size. That's the only way to find the proper wiring diagram.
It looks like you have the the single relay/circuit breaker box on the trim pump in which case, there is no separate relay for trim and tilt.
Does your system have a black box with flashing lights mounted at the transom?
