New to the forum and glad to be here, but the problem is I have a weak spot near the rear floor drain. It is in the perfect spot when you step down from the deck. The question I have is how I go about repairing this problem.

welcome aboard.

first, what are you working on?

soft spot on deck is usually (about 99.99% of the time) due to rot underneath. The last thing to get soft is the deck (boats rot from the bottom up). first thing you do is inspect under the deck. sample drill the stringers and transom. any wet wood, your in for a full gut and rebuild.

we can help you rebuild it.

Working on a 76 ranger,What I,m calling a deck is the rear seat position live well under the feet, and the drain is in the floor. You step down in the same spot every time, where the drain is in the floor.Poor design but held up for years.I don,t think it,s rot though

Until you uncover it and figure out what is actually going on, it will be difficult to suggest a fix.

I, like Scott, expect it to be more involved then you hope.

It's a 40 year old boat. Guarantee there is wet wood under the soft spot. The stickies at the top of the forum has a really good bunch of links that cover the proper repair
