I have 2000 Johnson V-4 130...had it since new...never have had any motor problems...on Sunday October 24 running down the bayou...the motor sputtered and died approx 1 mile from the launch...we were unsuccesful in restarting the motor and were towed back in...had plenty fuel and had jus recently went fishing earlier in the week and the motor did great...approx 2 hrs later I touched the starter and it started but only ran a minute but ran and sounded great...but it shut off....and would not crank again...sounds like "no" fire...any suggestions or sound familiar to anyone owning a motor like mine....
Thanks

Re: Down on the Bayou

Back to basics time. First off check your spark as it should jump a 7/16 " open air gap. Next check your fuel for any water in it. Pull your fuel line off the mtr and pump some fuel into a clear glass jar with your primer bulb and see what it looks like. Any water will settle on the bottom.

Will it crank with the starter and not fire or does it not crank after it dies? Your description is not clear. If it cranks with the starter it could be a fuel delivery problem, contaminated fuel, or any number of things. Read the Secret File at the top of the forum and start doing the tests described. Hopefully you have an OEM manual.

"Won't Crank" in the South means doesn't start.
