Guys

Regarding Transom restoration which wood panel you will use, Douglas Fir Or Treated Wood, if possible explain why..

Here the Douglas Fir Panel cost $39.95 the Treated wood oven dry goes around $55.00, no 7% tax included. I like the treated wood, looks solid, strong and resin friendly.

Thanks for your opinion.

Not sure exactly what you mean by Treated Wood. If it's the chemicallly treated wood like we have in the states AND it is truly Oven dried and not wet AND it's rated for exterior use using 100% waterproof glue in the laminations, then it would be fine. Douglas Fir due to the resin in the wood, is naturally water resistant. Another thing to look for is the number of plys. More is better. Voids in the edges and the interior of the plys is not good. The Arauco plywood that has previously been mentioned is 7 ply with almost no voids and is an excellent choice. Doug Fir is typically 5 ply as is the Treated. Personally, I don't like the chemicals so if I was forced to choose between the two, I'd go with the DF.

The vast majority of boat builders now use KD pressure treated wood for all components if wood is what they use, others are moving to non wood products.

Wood, yes is the one that you guys have on the states, not sure about waterproof glue in laminations but it should be, just looking for expand knowledge and options when budget comes tight, anyway here is a pic of the 1/2 treated panel I testing right now.

5 ply, will take a look to DF tomorrow.

The kiln (oven) dried PT ply is what I have in my boat and it's an excellent choice for boats.

My boat is 14 yrs. old and the ply is still like new.
