I need to know how to hook a tach to a 82 johnson 70hp
I have no cable, so I need to hook it to what on the motor?

What kind of tach do you have?

The BRP tach of the right model comes with a harness that you can plug and play. The Teleflex tachometers offer the harness as well.

Or you can easily wire most tachs, that have the correct settings on the rotary dial of course, by either going directly to the ignition switch or by cutting into the main harness. Your dial should be set to 6P.

I have not bought a tach yet. When I asked the store how to hook it up they did not know so I thought I should find out first. I think it hooks to a pr wire on th voltage regulator on the motor

thanks , It was a gray wire on the voltage regulator. I found it in a book and on the web site you mentioned.
