Re: Doral boats

Doral was notorious in the early 00's for hull flexing issues near the transom due to rotting(because of poor choice of building material and structure). I remember all 2003 model year boats were recalled for the issue. I believe they almost went bankrupt from the ordeal. Now, I know they're better, with some high tech stringer system, but im not totally sure if the problem was there in 97.

Re: Doral boats

it definately wasn't there in 1989. Wouldn't a proper marine survey be the way to go on any '97 regardless of make?

Re: Doral boats

This is the only Recall notice I could find for Doral boats of that era..and it only applies to two models:

RECALL 050072T
2003, 2004 & 2005 Doral International 330SE (CA-QJAD3182D303 to
CA-QJAD5226C505) and 360SE (CA- QJAE3092K203 to CA-
QJAE5189B505):
Missing ?L? shaped support brackets fastened to the stringers and
clamped to the horizontal part of the stainless steel exhaust elbows on
Elegante/330SE and Baca Grande/360SE models equipped with Volvo 8.1
or Mercruiser 8.1 inboards engines manufactured 11/02 through 06/05.
If ?L? shaped support brackets are missing the metal and the semi-rigid
rubber exhaust hoses can disconnect from each other while the engines
are running and raw cooling water and carbon monoxide (CO) exhaust
gases spray inside the engine room, eventually damaging equipment. If
not detected in time CO exhaust gases could eventually collect in the
cockpit and/or in the cabin and become a severe health hazard.

My 2001 is solid as a rock. In all my research before buying, I found that they have a very good reputation for building solid, hand-laid, hulls. They are not big in the western US, they are based out of Canada. They went through a restructuring and are under new ownership now, but have a very good reputation for the quality of their builds.

There's a Doral forum, down at the bottom of the main Forums page, where you can find people that know a lot more than I do. Check out the link in my sig for a video review of a Doral.

It's all in the upkeep and maintainence. A Cobalt of the same age could be a POS or a gem...all depends on how the previous owners treated her.
