dont have six inches for mercruiser shift cable adjustment

I recently installed a new shift cable, and re-installed the stern drive. When I am attempting to set the shift cable at "six inches" (when pushing cable in for forward gear) I have much less than six inches and run out of space for the brass drum to rotate. (1984 Mercruiser 260, v-8, alpha one R drive).

Is the roller arm seated properly in the cable slide/end at the bell housing?
